making a house a home

house to home

slowly but surely changes have been happening around my (OUR) apartment. his cologne is mixed in with my perfume, our office is close to being complete and new photos have been framed in our bedroom. in the coming months, we’ll purchase new dining chairs, our king bed will arrive and my bf and his dad will construct a headboard. i can’t wait to get everything perfected. all of that aside, him being here, and decorating the place together, makes my apartment feel more like a home, and that’s what is most important.

how to: concealer (get rid of dark circles!)

how to concealer

like many of you, i’m always looking for the perfect concealer formula to hide dark circles. my professional kit is stocked full of items that didn’t work so well. how many times does it happen: you’ve tried it in the store but after you bring it home, you find out that the product you over-spent on… under-delivers.

save your money and give my concealing system and product suggestions a go… basically, i’ve spent the money so you don’t have to!

colour correction: this is the first thing to consider. always look for an undereye concealer with a peach undertone, as this will counter act the purple undertone on which most dark circles are based. some of my faves: benefit, laura mercier, bobbi brown and the balm.

  • start with clean hands. using your fingers allows greater control and less product waste (brushes and sponges suck up a lot of that precious product!). this also warms up and emulsifies the concealer.
  • using your ring finger, dab (do not rub) the concealer from the inner corner, downwards, in the hollow of the eye (where most dark circles are concentrated). pressing the product into the skin as opposed to smearing it on will help it stick to where it needs to.
  • continue dabbing the concealer over the rest of the under-eye. you may even need another coat which is best applied at the end of your makeup routine followed by…

the trick: a light reflecting product is your secret weapon. yves st. laurent makes the uber popular touche eclat which i recommend.

  • the trick is to ONLY use this in the darkest areas/hollows since this is where you want the light to reflect… not all over the under-eye. clarins makes one similar one. BONUS: they also diffuse the appearance of fine lines!

set: to keep the concealer from creasing as much as possible (all concealer will crease throughout the day), set it with a little translucent powder. skip this step if you’ve used a light reflecting product as described above since the dull powder will cancel out any of those reflecting properties.

the winter uniform

winter uniform

please tell me i am not the only one who turns a great outfit into a uniform? what you see above is definitely my winter uniform. it’s a dress it up, dress it down outfit. going to lunch? perfect. drinks with the ladies? sure. dvd’s at a friends? yep. shopping on south granville? all covered… as long as you throw on the wellies first. comfy, cozy, stylish and practical; what more do you need?

‘remain’ poncho
‘alexander mcqueen’ leopard and skull scarf (similar. mine is zara)
‘old navy’ skinny black jeans
‘tory burch’ reva flats (these things feel like butter around your feet)
‘hunter’ wellies
‘louis vuitton’ neverfull GM purse
‘michael kors’ gold watch

weekend {sparkles}

this weekend, i’m heading home for christmas. i  look forward to this all year long! christmas baking, pj’s, movies, sleeping in, eating copious amounts; there’s something so theraputic about spending a few cozy days at home surrounded by your favourite people.

make sure you check back early next week for my famous salted caramel sauce recipe!

for perusal in between the christmas shopping rush (like the lovely model above, right?), a few things from around the web i’m enjoying:
