happy new year! in all honesty, 2012 was a tough year full of so many ups and downs. i worked like a dog, lost my personal balance, met some wonderful people that i’m proud to call friends, strengthened existing relationships, and learned a lot about me and my weaknesses (and even some strengths). some hard lessons were learned that will carry me into 2013 a better person than i started out 2012 as, and i’m very glad for that! so, do you believe in new year’s resolutions? had you asked me last year, i would have said no, but this year, i feel differently; i’m even terming them personal revolutions and they are…
slow down
for 2013, the biggest thing i want to resolve is to, put simply, slow down. impossible right? in this day and age of pinterest, instagram, twitter, and keeping up with the blogging, the job, hobbies, relationships, the most common thing i hear from my girlfriends is that they are simply depleted, overwhelmed and tired; over-stimulation burn out (consider the term coined!). yes, we’re just so “busy”! in the spirit of this post where i spilled about being overwhelmed; the biggest thing on my mind right now is what is it all for? i mean, seriously, in the non-philosophical sense, why are we all attempting to keep up with unfullfilling communication that satisfies an ever so fleeting immediate gratification? an urge to tweet a moment instead of enjoying it… you know exactly what i mean. replying to a text message the moment it hits your screen. pinning onto boards we never will look at again. grabbing the iphone the moment we open our eyes (i mean, what if we actually missed something while we were sleeping? horror!)… honestly, it’s ridiculous and to seek balance, i am excited to step back from it all and make a meaningful contribution to the noisy blogesphere!
health and wellness
it’s all connected – being out of balance means you let some things slip, and for me that’s my health and wellness. when i’m “busy”, it’s the last thing i want to focus on and in 2013 that will change. no, that doesn’t mean a diet; for me it means getting that pesky physical i’ve been putting off (yes, honey, i mean it!). starting january with a three-day juice cleanse and colon hydrotherapy to detox my body. replacing real housewives with a little exercise. taking my fish oils and green smoothies with consistency, not just when i can fit it in (i.e when i remember to). sticking to my skincare regimen, not skipping the clarisonic because i don’t have an extra two minutes for the full cycle… i’m sure you can relate!
if you have resolutions (or revolutions!), i’d love to hear about them. and if it’s more of the same for you come 2013, kill it!
oh, and if you’re reading this on new year’s day, hungover from last night: coconut water – trust me! x
