i am completely hooked on anything organic, natural and chemical free… when it comes to food. i don’t buy anything from the grocery store that isn’t natural and organic, but if you peer into my beauty arsenal, this isn’t the case – yet. i was recently invited to meet the woman behind her eponymous brand tata harper skin care at kiss and makeup in west vancouver, and she introduced me to a whole new world of effective 100% natural, mostly organic and toxin-free skin care. she grows, harvests, and creates the products on her vermont farm (for more on this, check out my post over on beauty nine to five).
as a blogger, beauty writer, and makeup artist, i have tried it all. the moment i hear “natural”, i think “buzz-word!” or “ineffective”. this stuff has made my acne-prone skin (yes, even at 31!) soft, supple, and in the best condition of it’s life. i feel good knowing that the products are free from nasty chemicals like parabens, sulfates, and other synthetics.
a few tidbits i learned while tata tested out the luxury skin care products on my face:
- there is no known natural form of skin penetrating vitamin c – this means she doesn’t use it in her products but replaces it with other more effective oils and botanicals.
- hyaluronic acid (an oil free, skin plumping ingredient) is widely used as an effective humectant, and can increase collagen production, however many lines use a low quality version of the ingredient. the one contained in the tata harper products are bio-identical.
- synthetic chemicals applied to the skin are absorbed and are not filtered by the liver, so the toxins end up dumped back into the bloodstream meaning the body becomes toxic.
- when a woman reaches 30, she should slow down on her exfoliation practices since the skin starts thinning as we age – aggressive exfoliation can age the skin more quickly.
redefining green beauty using natural wonders like neroli oil, raw honey, rose, bergamot, white willow bark and hyaluronic acid, the products have 6-29 active ingredients. i’m obsessed with the stuff!
