home styling: think pink for decor

June 13, 2012

lately, i’ve noticed a resurgence in pink for the home. more to the point, magenta. a few years back, it was everywhere – i even bought a magenta side chair and curtains when it was on trend, so i’m happy to see it’s back… even though i don’t think the curtains ever were or ever will be a good idea!

the trick to this pop of pink is to use it for impact and drama. i love the way it can really attract the eye and not only freshen up a space, but modernize it at the same time. my favourite way to combine this bold colour is with white – the major contrast allows maximum impact.

the decorator pillow, blanket and artful pom add the pop without the commitment

this bold velvet couch is the focal point of this modern living space

these dining tufted chairs are a classic shape, but the bright pink combined with the traditional table and white piping is a chic combo

this is a great example of how white and pink work so well together, creating a fine balance

the magenta combined with the neutrals and gold really creates a lux atmosphere

the crisp magenta and white chair adds to the girly, sleek feel of the mirrored vanity

I love the pops of pink/magenta. I have a large puffin figurine on the top of my black IKEA book shelf (the one with 16 ‘boxes’, 4×4), and it’s magenta! It adds that pop of pink that my room needs.
